The BER performance of a FSO system with polar codes under weak turbulence

The key challenge in free space optical (FSO) communications is combating turbulence-induced fading. As the channel fading FSO quasi-static, transmission parameters such as code rates, transmit power and modulation schemes can be modified with respect to state information transmitted via feedback path. a result, adaptive coding considered one of practical approaches improve link performance. In this study, system polar codes investigated its performance analysed by determining optimum code-rate required achieve bit error rate 10−9 under weak turbulence. It shown that, using Monte-Carlo simulations for scintillation indices 0.12 0.2, successive cancelation list (SCL) decoder offers gains 2.5 0.3 dB, respectively, compared SC decoder, index 0.31, gain dB that SCL rate.
